Registering a Death

Although you can contact a funeral director before the death certificate is issued it is important to register the death as soon as possible. Take the death certificate along with the birth certificate of the deceased (if available) and the marriage certificate (if appropriate) or certificate of civil partnership. You should also take the deceaseds medical card to the registrars. (If you cannot find any of these documents still proceed with the registration) In Scotland a death can be registered at any registry office.

During these difficult Covid times all registration appointments are now carried out over the telephone. You will now have to call the Registrar to make an appointment.
